A clear brief gets you an accurate quote quickly and avoids costly changes later. This guide lists what to include, with extra points for common dosage forms.
What every brief needs
- Product name and dosage form: for example tablet, syrup, suspension, gel, powder or injection.
- Composition and strength: every active ingredient and its amount per unit.
- Pack size and packing style: for example blister of 10 tablets or a 100 ml bottle, and how many units per carton.
- Quantity: the size of your first order, and expected repeat orders if you know them.
- Brand name and artwork: or say that you still need help with them.
- Timeline: the date you need the first batch.
- Special requirements: colour, flavour, storage conditions or shelf life.
Tablets
Say whether the tablet is plain or coated and how many are in each strip. Give the weight and any marking you want on the tablet. State the storage conditions if the product is sensitive to light or moisture.
Syrups and suspensions
Give the bottle size, the closure type and whether you need a measuring cap. Mention flavour and whether the product must be sugar free. For suspensions, say whether it should be shaken before use and what the label must say.
Gels, lotions and creams
Say the tube or bottle size and the packing material. State the base you prefer if you have one.
Powders
Give the sachet or jar size and the net content. Say how the product is meant to be taken.
Injections
Injections are sterile products, so details matter more. Give the volume per vial or ampoule and the pack type. Share any specification you must meet and ask the manufacturer to confirm it can make the product.
